Today on the radio they were playing a recording of Tony Blair in Greece. He was at the EU Summit and there had been thousands of demonstrators, some violent, protesting against the war coalition’s actions.
A reporter had asked him what he thought about the demonstrators.
His answer was that thousands of lives had been lost, but the demonstrators had to realize that he was as sincere as they. Saddam Hussein had been defeated.
He cannot be hearing himself anymore. Three months ago I heard him say that he had to invade Iraq because he couldn't live with himself knowing he had allowed weapons of mass destruction to remain in Iraq. He lowers his voice and sounds so sincere.
It is totally depressing. He is quite insane, as anyone would call anyone insane. No one sane could justify causing what has happened this past month.
That of course implies that George Bush is insane, and the military officials of the Pentagon, and the people in the armed forces who went on this 'mission' are insane. That implies that 73% of the US population are insane, and the percentage of people who in the UK and other countries supported this war. That leaves only those who backed it, for power, and money, and to keep their jobs, as the many politicians who said nothing, and voted or did not vote, and allowed it to happen, as being the evil ones. They are not insane. They know what they are doing.
Some part of me does say that many more countries did not support the war, than did, and that there were many more people in most countries of the world that did not support the war, than did. That I think is true.
So where are we? I have no doubt Tony Blair is truly mad, not doubt about that, none at all. He has to answer the questions. He has to be the giver of reason.
The others? Yes, some deceived. Yes, some brainwashed. Yes, most who have a thinking that killing people is an answer to ridding the world of violence. But, ridding the world of violence is not I think what these truly want. That is merely the excuse. Power is what they want. Power to control. Power to excercise their will. As the two great Western democracies degenerate into the powerful of its people becoming ever more powerful, so the world turns.
It is me that is insane? It is me? I should understand that this is the way it is going to be.
I am in a strange world where those who have power will exercise their power in horrible ways. I am living with stranger and stranger people.
I saw this horror first in Vietnam. I opened my eyes then. I closed them since. Stepped away, could not face the newer horrors. There for that time, for the West at least, there was some reason I could give. Violence was necessary? I opened my eyes again this time. I wish I hadn’t. But I have. And now I have to make it all make sense. An insanity that has no sense.
A reporter had asked him what he thought about the demonstrators.
His answer was that thousands of lives had been lost, but the demonstrators had to realize that he was as sincere as they. Saddam Hussein had been defeated.
